Chaat Recipe
Chaat is a popular snack made with a combination of crispy fried dough, boiled potatoes, chickpeas, tangy tamarind chutney, spicy green chutney, yogurt, and an array of aromatic spices.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups boiled chickpeas
- 2 cups boiled and diced potatoes
- 1 cup crispy fried papdi (crispy dough wafers)
- 1 cup chopped onions
- 1 cup chopped tomatoes
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1/4 cup chopped green chilies
- 1/4 cup tamarind chutney
- 1/4 cup green chutney (coriander-mint chutney)
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 1 teaspoon chaat masala
- 1 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- Sev (crunchy chickpea noodles) for garnish
- Fresh lemon wedges for serving
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the boiled chickpeas, boiled diced potatoes, chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, chopped fresh cilantro, and chopped green chilies.
- Add the tamarind chutney and green chutney to the bowl, mixing well to coat all the ingredients evenly.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the plain yogurt until smooth. Season the yogurt with chaat masala, roasted cumin powder, red chili powder, and salt to taste.
- To assemble the chaat, arrange a layer of crispy fried papdi on a serving plate.
- Spoon the chickpea and potato mixture over the papdi, followed by a generous drizzle of spiced yogurt.
- Sprinkle sev over the top of the chaat for added crunch and texture.
- Garnish the chaat with additional chopped onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and green chilies, if desired.
