Chaat Recipe

Chaat is a popular snack made with a combination of crispy fried dough, boiled potatoes, chickpeas, tangy tamarind chutney, spicy green chutney, yogurt, and an array of aromatic spices.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups boiled chickpeas
  • 2 cups boiled and diced potatoes
  • 1 cup crispy fried papdi (crispy dough wafers)
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 1 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/4 cup chopped green chilies
  • 1/4 cup tamarind chutney
  • 1/4 cup green chutney (coriander-mint chutney)
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Sev (crunchy chickpea noodles) for garnish
  • Fresh lemon wedges for serving

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the boiled chickpeas, boiled diced potatoes, chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, chopped fresh cilantro, and chopped green chilies.
  2. Add the tamarind chutney and green chutney to the bowl, mixing well to coat all the ingredients evenly.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the plain yogurt until smooth. Season the yogurt with chaat masala, roasted cumin powder, red chili powder, and salt to taste.
  4. To assemble the chaat, arrange a layer of crispy fried papdi on a serving plate.
  5. Spoon the chickpea and potato mixture over the papdi, followed by a generous drizzle of spiced yogurt.
  6. Sprinkle sev over the top of the chaat for added crunch and texture.
  7. Garnish the chaat with additional chopped onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and green chilies, if desired.
  8. Serve the Spicy Pakistani Chaat immediately, accompanied by fresh lemon wedges for squeezing over the chaat just before eating.
