Fried Tofu Stuffed with Spicy Shrimp Paste Recipe. This crispy tofu pockets are filled with a savory mixture of spicy shrimp paste, creating a delightful explosion of flavors in every bite.

Ingredients:

  • Firm tofu blocks: 6 pieces
  • Spicy shrimp paste (sambal terasi): 2 tablespoons
  • Shallots, finely chopped: 2
  • Garlic cloves, minced: 2
  • Red chili peppers, finely chopped: 2
  • Kaffir lime leaves, thinly sliced: 2 leaves
  • Tamarind paste: 1 tablespoon
  • Palm sugar or brown sugar: 1 tablespoon
  • Salt: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Lime wedges for serving

Instructions:

  1. Carefully slice each block of firm tofu horizontally to create a pocket without cutting all the way through. Gently press down on the tofu to create a well for the filling.
  2. In a bowl, combine the spicy shrimp paste, finely chopped shallots, minced garlic, chopped red chili peppers, thinly sliced kaffir lime leaves, tamarind paste, palm sugar, and salt. Mix well to create a smooth filling mixture.
  3. Spoon the spicy shrimp paste mixture into each tofu pocket, ensuring they are evenly filled.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Carefully add the stuffed tofu pockets to the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Once fried, remove the tofu pockets from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
