Turkish Borek Recipe with Spinach and Feta Cheese

Turkish Borek is a delicious and savory pastry that’s popular in Turkish cuisine. Ingredients:

  • 1 package phyllo dough
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 lb. spinach, chopped
  • 1 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large skillet, sauté the chopped onion until it’s soft and translucent.
  3. Add the chopped spinach to the skillet and continue cooking until it wilts down.
  4. Add the crumbled feta cheese to the skillet and mix everything together.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Grease a baking dish with some melted butter.
  7. Layer 3 sheets of phyllo dough on the bottom of the dish, brushing each layer with melted butter.
  8. Spread half of the spinach and feta cheese mixture over the phyllo dough.
  9. Layer 3 more sheets of phyllo dough on top of the mixture, brushing each layer with melted butter.
  10. Spread the remaining spinach and feta cheese mixture over the phyllo dough.
  11. Layer 3 more sheets of phyllo dough on top of the mixture, brushing each layer with melted butter.
  12. Brush the top layer with beaten egg and bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes or until the phyllo dough turns golden brown.
  13. Remove from the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, then slice and serve.
