Classic French Onion Soup Recipe

  • 4 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 6 cups beef broth

  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Baguette slices
  • Gruyere cheese, grated


  1. Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for 20-25 minutes until caramelized.
