Spicy Sausage and Pasta Recipe

  • 1 lb. spicy Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can diced tomatoes (14.5 oz)
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 8 oz. pasta (penne or rigatoni work well)
  • 1 tsp. dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp. dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Parmesan cheese for topping


  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the sausage over medium-high heat until fully cooked, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.
  2. Add the chopped onion and garlic to the pot and cook until softened, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Add the can of diced tomatoes (undrained), chicken broth, water, pasta, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper to the pot.
  4. Stir everything together and bring the mixture to a boil.
  5. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low and let the mixture simmer for 12-15 minutes, or until the pasta is cooked to your liking and the sauce has thickened slightly.
