COS-244AGC Gas Oven Troubleshooting

Bake and/or Broil will not light
  1. Check that the proper lighting procedure is being used. Your Cosmo oven lights differently from other ovens and even the cooktop burners.
    1. Push the oven control knob in and hold it for 2-3 seconds. Do not turn the knob yet. The igniter should start sparking/clicking.
    2. After 2-3 seconds, quickly release the knob and turn it to 400 degrees F. The oven knob should turn with little to no resistance. If you feel significant resistance to turning the knob, try pushing it in or releasing it further.
    3. You will feel it stop at 265 briefly before being able to turn it all the way to 400. After 5-10 seconds, the igniter should stop clicking automatically.
    4. Turn the oven knob to your desired temperature after the oven flame has stayed on for 30 seconds.
    5. Always wait for the oven to cool to room temperature before attempting to re-light it. If the oven is still warm, it will not light.
  2. My oven does not spark or click when following the lighting procedure:
    1. Check that the cooktop burners spark or click during the lighting procedure.
    2. Check that the unit has been installed properly: Electrical Installation Troubleshooting.
    3. If a spark can be seen on the affected burner’s electrode, it may not be in the optimal position to ignite the flame. Manual adjustment may be needed to position the tip of the electrode closer to the holes on the burner tube. If a spark cannot be seen on the affected burner’s electrode, contact technical support or a qualified technician for further troubleshooting and diagnosis.
  3. My oven sparks or clicks when following the lighting procedure:
    1. I do not smell gas:
      1. Check that the unit has been installed properly: Gas Installation Troubleshooting.
      2. Check that the gas shut-off valve behind the unit has been turned to the ON position.
      3. If a new installation, there may be air trapped in the gas line.
        1. Repeat the proper lighting procedure several times.
        2. If you begin to smell gas, proceed to the next step.
    2. I smell gas:
      1. If using LP gas:
        1. Check that the unit has been properly converted to LP gas by a qualified technician using the appropriate LP conversion kit.
      2. The bracket holding the igniter may need to be adjusted closer to the holes on the oven burner.
      3. Contact support or a qualified technician for further troubleshooting and diagnosis.
Bake and/or Broil will light but will not stay lit
  1. If using LP gas:
    1. Check that the unit has been properly converted to LP gas by a qualified technician using the appropriate LP conversion kit.
  2. After lighting the oven, stay near the oven and pay attention to the exact moment it shuts off:
    1. Does it turn off within 30 seconds of lighting?
    2. My oven flame turns off well after the sparking or clicking stops, but before reaching the set temperature.
    3. My oven flame turns off soon after reaching the set temperature.
  3. The thermocouple safety sensor may be out of alignment and need to be adjusted. Contact support or a qualified technician for further troubleshooting and diagnosis. If oven still does not stay lit:
    1. The oven valve may need to be calibrated to raise the minimum flame. Contact support or a qualified technician for further troubleshooting and diagnosis.
Bake temperature is off by more than 40-50 degrees
  1. I am using LP gas:
    1. Check that the unit has been properly converted to LP gas by a qualified technician using the appropriate LP conversion kit.
  2. Check that the thermometer being used is properly calibrated. If necessary, purchase a new thermometer.
  3. Check that your personal oven thermometer is placed in the center of the oven, and that the oven has been given sufficient time to preheat, typically 10-20 minutes.
    1. Note: At high altitudes (beginning around 2500 feet above sea level), it will take significantly longer to preheat the oven due to the lower gas pressure.
    2. For meat or poultry, we recommend cooking up to 25% longer than the recipe calls for. For leavening products such as yeast, we recommend increasing the temperature by 15-20 degrees and decreasing the baking time.
    3. US Food Safety and Inspection Service’s web page regarding high altitude cooking
  4. Wait for the oven to cool completely to prevent burns or other injuries. Next, locate the thermostat probe in the top or rear of the oven cavity, which looks similar to this. If the thermostat probe is dislodged or crooked, attempt to reconnect it to the mounting clip(s).
  5. The oven valve may need to be adjusted to reset the temperature calibration. Contact support or a qualified technician for further troubleshooting and diagnosis.
Broil stays lit but struggles to reach MAX temperature
  1. I am using LP gas:
    1. Check that the unit has been properly converted to LP gas by a qualified technician using the appropriate LP conversion kit.
  2. Check that the convection fan is switched to the OFF position. Convection cooking is only available for baking.
  3. Allow enough time for the broiler to preheat. The broiler can take up to 30-35 minutes to reach 400-450 degrees Fahrenheit.
  4. If you are experiencing undercooked or incomplete dishes, make sure the food being broiled is on the highest rack position possible. The temperature will drop significantly at each rack level and lower racks may not broil your food properly.
  5. The oven valve may need to be adjusted to reset the temperature calibration. Contact support or a qualified technician for further troubleshooting and diagnosis.
The buttons below my clock are stuck and won’t pop back out
  1. Each button below your clock is closely surrounded by a trim piece that can rub against the button and cause it to stick if pressed too hard. For a quick fix, follow the method in the videos below.
